Ivan Le Lorraine Albright (1897-1983) was born in North Harvey, Illinois along with his identical twin brother Malvin Marr Albright, known as Zsissly. Ivan received early training from his father an artist who had studied under Thomas Eakins. During WWI he served the army as a medical illustrator drawing the many wounded in the military hospital in France. In 1919 he enrolled in the Art Institute of Chicago, then at the Pennsylvania Academy and National Academy. His work is provocative and he is often known as the “master of macabre” because of his ghoulish subjects. He is a highly recognized painter and printmaker with work in many major museums.
