Description
Dimensions: 13-3/4" H x 11-5/8" Dia.

Chinese Qing Dynasty famille rose moon vase. Tall ovoid body, with bulbous lower region sweeping up into a slender neckline and onion-shaped head, supported on short foot ring with double blue lines ring. Two archaic pattern ribbon handles flanked from upper neck to the shoulder rim. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the famille rose design color. Famille rose hand painting depicted vividly hand painted in enamel design, famille rose translates to the pink family, on a colored ground decoration. Each bulging sides enclosing colorful falangcai, famille rose on a colored ground decoration, of Bajixiang. The center moon medallion body adorned with peacock hanging on the sturdy branch tree interspersed with various vivid tones flowers blooms, called Flowers of the Four Seasons, enclosed with double fine blue rings lines. The outer center medallion toward neck and foot base rim decorated with flowers blooms called millefleurs on the deep blue base color. The handsome male peacock struts around showing off its amazing ‘eyed’ tail feathers to a passing peahen. It is an emblem of beauty and dignity. In the Ming and Qing dynasties the seniority of officials could be judged by the number of peacock feathers he wore in his hat. So peacocks in decoration can represent the wish to become an official. The Queen Mother of the West is sometimes depicted riding a peacock or with peacock feathers in her hair. Flowers of the Four Seasons : In the Chinese culture, specific flowers represent the seasons. winter: Plum Blossom, Spring: Peony, Summer: Lotus, Fall: Chrysanthemum. The health and condition of the flower also conveys meaning in the Chinese culture. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.

Mark on under base, a six underglaze blue seal script characters reign mark, Qianlong Reign Period of Great Qing.
