Great, Chinese Ming Dynasty Chenghua Period, fighting lotion dragon porcelain bowl. Delicately potted with slightly rounded sides rising from footed base toward flat opening, of a simply deep and wide vessel, straight opening, curved side, raised on slight short foot base rim. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the Wucai design color. Wucai or five-color shades and tones, brightly painted in Wucai design, Opaque colors around the exterior, between the filling motif decorated in colorful vivid sgraffito ground of uptala. The main body decorated with snarling huge five claws imperial red wings dragon careening through flames and vapors, above thrashing Li-Shui waves in a cobalt blue color dragon squama chasing flaming pearl amidst flames against scrolling clouds diaper rounded the center medallion, interspersed with scrolling cumulus clouds, flaming ruyi, enclosed with double fine blue ring lines on the upper mouth and foot base rim. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity. The color is balanced, elegant and exquisite. The porcelain displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely glazed exterior.
