Description
Bioma figure, Yupno Valley, Morobe Region, Papua New Guinea, ca. 19th-early 20th c. With an inscription in the Yupno language reading "Vatave Kimori” along the reverse of the figure. The figure is decorated with natural pigments and is beautifully carved.
Collector Notes:
Collected by a Minnesota family in Papua New Guinea in the 1950s. The family donated portions of their collection to the Minneapolis Institute of Art during Evan Mauer's tenure as director.
