Description
Giovanni Cipriani (London 1727-1785); oval Old Master Watercolor Drawing on paper, "Sacrifice to Cupid". Believed to be the original unsigned design by Cipriani for the popular color engraving by Bartolozzi published 1 November 1783 by N. Palmer, No 159 Strand, London and illustrated as Plate IX in Julia Frankau's book, "Eighteenth Century Color Prints," 1900 London & New York (with 2 photostats of the print from FARL to the back of frame). Vintage 1980's APF gold-leaf Museum framing and hand-painted French Mat. Light mat burn to oval with slight fading. Height of art 8 inches (20.3 cm.) X width of art 10 1/8 inches (25.7 cm.).
