JP SPRUILL, FOLK ART MODEL USS HERRING, SS233: GATO Class Submarine Launched 15 January 1942 at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. Fought in the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Pacific. Sunk 7 ships and was Lost with all Hands 1 June 1944. Model was Made from a Sourwood Tree Branch from the Grounds of the Mariners Museum in Newport News, Virginia. Measures 14" x 44" x 21", weighs in at 50 LBS. Made at the Spruill Backyard Shipway in 2007. JP always Like Herrings hence the Interest in this Ship. (500-1250)
