Description
AFTER SHEN ZHOU (1427-1509) A WATERCOLORS ON SILK SCROLL PAINTING, "Scholar on the Mountain," POSSIBLY MING DYNASTY (1368-1644), centering a finely painted scholar wearing traditional attire and holding a scroll before his attendant youth carrying a cluster of scrolls, standing amidst ethereal rocky cliffs above a tall ancient pine with crooked branches towering over a ravine revealing a youth in simple white robes and back strapped ewer walking with a zheng musical instrument held in his hand, lower left four character black ink artist signature above two red square seals opposite oval and square red seals, top left two large archaistic style red square collector's seals. Height: 38", Width: 15 3/4".
Condition
In normal condition for Chinese silk scrolls of this age with expected dryness and darkening of silk, thinned areas, surface wear, fading of colors, old creases, small losses, backed on silk and mounted on a later cream silk woven diapered scroll.
