AKA Pocket Army Revolver. 6 shot. 7" barrel in .44-40 caliber. These large frame revolvers were manufactured by Hopkins and Allen in Norwich, Connecticut. Left side of frame marked "CALIBRE WINCHESTER 1873". This revolver is nickel plated with super factory original hard rubber bird's head grips. All serial numbers match. 100% original 100% complete and mechanically perfect. Metal retains 90% of the ORIGINAL FACTORY NICKEL FINISH. Grips are perfect. The primary distinction between these Pocket Army Revolvers and the 44 caliber Frontier model, is that the Pocket Army has a 'bird's head' grip with an exposed metal butt that includes an integral lanyard loop. The metal butt was quite an effective weapon in itself and is referred to as a SKULL CRUSHER.



I personally purchased this wonderful cowboy gun from a well past-retirement age, very elegant lady who brought it to our Michigan Antique Arms Show to sell it. I made her the highest offer. After buying it I asked her if she had any family history on the original owner. Yes she did, and I wrote it down, and will relate it to the high bidder. The short version is that the lady's grandmother was given the gun as protection when she and her fiance went west in the 1880s or 1890s. She later returned home with the revolver and without the fiance.
