Wonderful unmessed with relic Colt totally brown and pitted and cool. This great old six shooter is really trying to tell us the story. It is the Colt model 1851 navy revolver. It undoubtedly saw good service during the Civil War and could have been used by a soldier on either side. After the war it was gunsmith converted to fire fixed metallic cartridges. A classic early, wild west Colt six shooter.
The serial number is 92679 shows that it was made about a year before the Civil War began. It may well have been in the hands of one of the thousands of rebels who went west after their surrender. Having no homes to return to, the west was a fine opportunity for them. Looks great, functions ok, And a true piece of frontier americana.
