John Grossman (California, Iowa, born 1932)
John Grossman was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1932. Grossman began copying Buck Rogers comics at an early age. He received a scholarship to the Minneapolis School of Art in 1950. After serving in the Army during 1952-54, he became a commercial artist in San Francisco. During 1956-58 he further studied in Paris at Cours de la Civilization Francaise at the Sorbonne. From 1960 to 1966 he taught lettering and design at the San Francisco Art Institute. In 1966 he began to paint in oils. Ronald Reagon appointed him to the California Arts Commision in 1967. Reagan presented one of his California landscapes to the Empress of Japan and another to the President of Mexico on a trip to that country.
