Including: (2) Boston School Medals, obverse Bust of Franklin. "THE GIFT OF FRANKLIN, MDCCXC". Reverse. A scroll bearing the words "AWARDED TO", blank below for recipient's name, a branch of rose, these two engraved "L. Cushing Kimball, 1858" and "Franklin W. Grant, 1867", the second lacking ring; PLUS (1) City of Boston Medal. Obverse. A scroll bearing the words "CITY MEDAL". Beneath is an oval compartment or shield containing a representation of the City of Boston. 1821. Reverse is the same as the other medals This example is engraved "Annie C. Grant, 1860". 1 3/8", 0.50 ozt. Varied degrees of wear. NOTE: In Franklin's will, there was a bequest of one hundred pounds, the interest of which is annually expended on the purchase of silver medals to be awarded to the most meritorious pupils in the pupils of the public schools. These are the two patterns used.
