Description
Charles Raphael Peyre French 1872-1949 - True Turn of the Century Bronze Group entitled Bataille des Fleurs / Battle of Flowers. Early Cast Sculpture depicting 3 Children Putti. Signed base. Height 22" x Width 12" x Length 17". Provenance: Private New York Estate.Peyre was a pupil of Alexandre Falguiére and Antonin Mercié. His preferred subjects were mostly allegorical and symbolic themes. He exhibited his work for the first time in 1893 at the Salon de Paris. In 1894 he received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes of the Société des Artistes Francois, of which he became a member in 1900 and exhibited there regularly. In 1902 he won numerous medals and awards. In 1909 he exhibited his work Harmonies there. Certain of his works have sold upwards of $90,000.00.A Marble example after this sculpture was exhibited at a Paris Salon in 1910. It was sold by Christies in 2018.
