This lot consists of an unframed ink illustration on paper, done in the distinctive cartoon style of George Harriman (American, 1880-1944). Handwritten inscription at right reads, "Happy Birthday, George Harriman!" Image depicts one cartoon character hurling a brick at another, who spits out a heart upon impact. An individual addition to any collection. This unique piece measures approximately 10.75" x 8.75".
George Harriman (American, 1880-1944) was best known for his work on the comic strip, Krazy Kat, which ran from 1913 to 1944. Harriman was born in New Orleans and began his career in New York, but spent most of his life in Los Angeles. He often traveled into the deserts of the American southwest to draw inspiration from Navajo and Mexican motifs. Harriman was employed by the New York Daily News, the New York Evening Journal, as well as the Los Angeles Examiner and the L.A. Times.
