Description
This lot consists of an ink illustration on paper, done in the distinctive cartoon style of Bob Kane (American, 1915-1998). A hand inscription at right reads, "From Superman to Batman. To my pal Bob Kane - Joe Shuster." Image depicts Batman, the iconic DC Comics character co-created by Kane. A superb addition to any collection. This unframed piece measures approximately 10.5" x 7.5".
Reverse side of piece features a stamp which reads, "Museum of Modern Art. 11 W 53rd St., New York, NY 10019".
Joe Shuster (Canadian-American, 1914-1992) was a comic book artist best known for co-creating Superman. Shuster originally worked for National Allied Publications, which would later become DC Comics. Through his work on the landmark comic strip, New Fun, Shuster established himself as a visionary and singularly creative cartoonist. It was his friendship and collaboration with the writer Jerry Siegel that would eventually lead to the creation of Superman, one of our greatest cultural icons and a modern-day legend that continues to inspire younger generations.
