ÂÂ
A mid-century desk lamp personally owned and used by Jack Kerouac (1922-1969), the famous American writer who brought us On The Road (1957). Provenance: This piece will be accompanied by our Certificate of Authentication as well as an estate certification signed by John Shen-Sampas, executer of the Kerouac Estate. John Shen-Sampas is the son of John Sampas, friend and brother-in-law of Jack Kerouac, and the brother of Stella Kerouac, JackÂ’s wife.
ÂÂ
The desk lamp has a two-toned gold and black conical shade, an adjustable arm, and a round base. No maker's mark could be found. The on/off switch located on the back of the lamp shade has been modified with a piece of yellow duct tape; likewise, the electric cord has been reinforced with black duct tape. (Could this be evidence of Kerouac's handiwork? He was very handy, and even made homemade cat carriers, for example.) Expected surface wear including minor dents and dings. The lamp base measures 5" diameter, while the lamp measures 16.375" tall when fully upright. The lamp is fully functional when plugged in and turned on!
