Description:
55, [1] pp. Introduction by Lady Ebury. Afterword by William Temple. 20 mounted photogravures (on rectos only) of the "grandest 18th-century mansion in Hertfordshire." 23x18 cm (9x7"), printed paper-covered boards. First Edition.
Coburn was a founding member of America's Photo-Secession, and was also a member of Britain's Linked Ring. His pictorial work was influenced by the paintings of James McNeill Whistler, and by tonalism, an American offshoot of impressionist painting. The photogravures comprise interior and exterior views of the ancient country house, its doorways and mantels, its gardens and deer park. Coburn took these photographs while teaching photography to Moor Park's owner, Lady Emilie Ebury.
Condition
A few repairs to paper-covering leaving a few discolored patches along front joint, some soiling and rubbing, corners lightly bumped; light soiling with a bit of foxing to title page; photogravures near fine; overall very good.
