A Napoleonic French cavalry flintlock pistol, not reconverted from percussion, and all original except for a replaced top jaw and screw. This is the 1801 pattern, also known as the Year-9 or An IX from its introduction while the Revolutionary calendar was still in use. These pistols also saw some naval use, but are the classic pistols of Napoleon's cavalry, each trooper carrying two in pommel holsters. It replaced the old 1777 patterns and was in use alongside the 1806 pattern throughout the period. The brass has a nice, aged patina. The wood has good edges, and good color, with some light handlng marks on one depression on the left forestock. The grip has an old paper inventory number glued to it that I have left in place. The metal is largely a mix of medium and dark gray with scattered salt-and-peppering.
