Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Ancient Near East, Anatolia, present-day Turkey, ca. 2800 to 2200 BCE. A large, milky white marble kilia head of an idol with an upturned face and pointed chin above a slender neck. Kilia are highly stylized female figures made throughout the Mediterranean during the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age. They are characterized by bulbous heads, long necks, and flat bodies with wide, flipper-like arms. When first made, this head probably would have had painted details like eyes. Archaeologists have interpreted these figures as female and call them "stargazers" because their heads are tilted upwards. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.4" L x 1.7" W x 1.7" H (3.6 cm x 4.3 cm x 4.3 cm); height on stand: 2.75" (7 cm).
Provenance: private New Jersey USA collection, acquired over twenty years ago
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
