Description
**Originally Listed At $650**
Ancient Near East, Anatolia, ca. late 2nd millennium BCE. A wonderful cast-copper bull figure with its front legs folded back beneath its stocky body in an almost sacrificial manner. The extended hind legs support the wide posterior and curved tail; the back bears a prominent spinal crest down the center, and a thick neck projects up from the shoulders. The minimalist head features a conical snout, petite eyes flanked by what appear to be blinders, and a pair of attenuated horns extending upwards with severed tips. Smooth, mottled patina in green and russet hues envelops the composition and imbues the figure with a well-aged presentation. A lovely zoomorphic figure from ancient Anatolia! Size: 5" L x 1.5" W x 4" H (12.7 cm x 3.8 cm x 10.2 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-Merrin Gallery, New York, New York, USA; ex-private New York, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s
