Cheers! Jack Kerouac's Highball Glasses

A box of vintage cocktail glasses owned by Jack Kerouac (1922-1969), the famous American writer who brought us On The Road (1957). Provenance: The piece will be accompanied by an estate certification signed by John Shen-Sampas, executor of the Kerouac Estate by descent. John Shen-Sampas is the son of John Sampas, who was the brother-in-law of Jack Kerouac, and the brother of Stella Kerouac, Jack's wife.

A box of eight 8 - 11 1/2 ounce Anchor Hocking (Lancaster, Ohio) "Happy Time" cocktail glasses, apparently scarcely or never used, and contained in the original cardboard box. The glasses are clear, and etched with chicken, sun, and floral designs in white and gilt. A little dusty, but incredibly vintage. The box is weathered and flyspecked, measuring 12.375" x 11" x 3".

Kerouac liked to drink, and alcohol was very important to his life and work. He was an opportunistic drinker, although he seemed to prefer Boilermakers (one biographer records that Kerouac squared away 14 Boilermakers in one memorable evening.) Kerouac had just sat down to write, armed with a glass of whiskey and malt liquor, right before suffering the attack of vomiting blood which led to his hospitalization, emergency surgery, and death the next day at the age of 47.

Were these glasses kept in reserve for fellow Beatniks at a St. Petersburg, Florida dinner party that never happened?

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
