1 pp. 43.7x35.9 cm (17¼x13¾"), pictorially engraved on vellum with manuscript completions, with scalloped indentation as issued, with original embossed admiralty stamp, signed off by John Barrow and the Duke of Clarence.
A naval pass for the "ship Hope of London built burthen of fifty-eight tons navigated with four men...for a single voyage in 1828."
The pass bears two signatures, that of the Duke of Clarence (the future William IV) in his capacity as Lord High Admiral, and that of Second Secretary to the Admiralty, John Barrow, a naval administrator, traveler, and promoter of British exploration. Barrow Strait, Barrow Sound, and Barrow Point in the Arctic and Cape Barrow in the Antarctic were all named for him.
Condition
Some folds, light toning and marginal dusting; overall very good.
