Description
Ming Dynasty, burnt "chicken bone" [Xinjiang] jade, opaque white with "baby's blush" pinkish-red spots from manganese inclusions (superficial cracks or fissures probably from intense heat), mountain with conifers and other trees growing in crevasses, a river rushing by at the base with the Hehe twins on a raft, Chan Chu, the three-legged toad, swimming after them, base carved with swirling water, 6-1/4 x 6-7/8 x 3-1/2 in., partial loss to one tree, remnants of black pigment, Provenance: Purchased on buying trip with Susan Chan Hayworth, Kyoto, Japan, early 1980s, said to have come from China during the Sino-Japanese War; The Bridge to Heaven Jade Collection See James C.
