Illustrated with engraved frontispiece portrait, engraved title-page, two engraved plates (pp. 494-495), and numerous in-text illustrations. Full speckled calf, worn, front and rear boards detached, but present, rubbing to boards and extremities, spine ends rubbed, head of spine chipped, stamped in blind and in gilt; all edges trimmed; creasing and edge wear to prelims, engraved title-page repaired at top corner, loss at bottom corner of leaf A, but not affecting text, scattered minor creasing, terminal blank separated with rear board; armorial book-plate of Henry Edward Bunbury on front paste-down. ESTC S118104. Sir Henry Edward Bunbury KCB, 7th Baronet (1778-1860) was a British soldier and historian, and member of Parliament for Suffolk from 1830-32. Son of English caricaturist, Henry William Bunbury, he had a distinguised military career, rising to the rank of Major General. Of his historical works he is known primarily for his "Narratives of Some Passages in the Great War with France," published in 1854.
