Herbert E Fouts (Easthampton New York d. 1970), Ink over pencil Drawing signed "For Jack / Herbert E. Fouts" in ink lower right corner recto, titled La Veuve (the Widow) circa 1930 archival mat and Arts & Craft fumed oak frame; together with Hans Frank (Vienna, Austria 1884-1948), Woodcut on Asian paper, 1908, signed and numbered 08/100 in pencil to margin lower right recto, titled and numbered on a board attached to back of frame: "Silver Pheasant / Print No. 8" with gallery label "Jos Fischl / Etchings, Woodcuts, Paintings / 1442 Third Avenue" and notation "Mr Balsan / Hold for Order," archival mat and silver leaf frame. Height of Fouts art 7 1/2 inches (19 cm.) X width 5 5/8 inches (14.3 cm,). Visible height of Frank art 8 1/4 inches (20.9 cm.) X visible width 7 inches (17.7 cm.). PROVENANCE: Both purchased from an Estate Tag Sale in Southampton Long Island, summer 1988. Herbert E Fouts was an illustrator and interior designer working in Easthampton Long Island. The Hans Frank with a notation to the frame "Ex Collection Consuelo Vanderbilt Balsan" (1877-1964); Jacques Balsan (1868-1956) and his wife the former Duchess of Marlborough, lived in Southampton Long Island where she died in December 1964.

Both appear in good condition with light old mat burn to Fouts (now in acid free book mat), light foxing to Frank, not examined out of frames which show some light wear.
