Description
The figure depicting a man with crossed legs corresponds to the iconographic traditions of the Yombe people. Sculptures of this type were a tangible form of a deceased ancestor, possibly a clan leader. The head the largest part of the sculpture represents the main organ of perception and thinking. A strong slender body is idealized. Crossed legs indicate complete composure. The sculpture is carved from a single piece of wood with great craftsmanship.
