Description
Please search WESTPORT AUCTION on YouTube to view our channel and see a video preview of this guitar being played. The Les Paul model, named after famous American guitarist, Lester William Polfus, was introduced by Gibson in 1952 as their first solidbody guitar. Deemed the Goldtop, all Les Paul standards before 1958 sport this gold finish. Although some all-gold versions were produced, many, like this guitar, have natural finish back and sides. This 1953 model has the original 1952 version’s "trapeze" combined bridge and tailpiece, which was discontinued by the end of 1953 in favor of the stud bridge/tailpiece. The Gibson Les Paul Standard remains one of the most widely played and universally celebrated guitars, played by notable artists such as Pete Townshend, Neil Young, and Jimmy Page. Goldtop Les Pauls, such as this early one, are highly collectible with each year showing new innovations by Gibson. Serial #90346 This Les Paul has markings indicative of a factory re-neck. The crown inlay detail on the headstock would have been used on an early to mid 1960’s Gibson ES-335 model. The serial number pressed into the wood would not have been used until 1961 and an original 1953 would have a black, ink-stamped serial number lower on the headstock. Aside from this, this guitar appears to be original and includes the original brown and pink case. Player-grade Vintage condition. One pickup may need servicing.
