Description
This lot consists of a fine art print on paper, done in the haunting Expressionist style of Edvard Munch (Norwegian, 1863-1944). A graphite inscription at lower right corner reads, "Edv. Munch". Unframed measurements approximately 11.5" x 8".
This brooding, atmospheric image portrays a man and a woman shrouded in darkness. Only their faces are discernable. The woman's long, red hair swirls around the face of the man. They are quietly linked in a dark and peaceful scene.
Edvard Munch (Norwegian, 1863-1944) was one of the most distinguished painters of the 20th century. Munch uninhibitedly delved into the darkest depths of his own psychological and emotional spectrums, producing works that still haunt and delight the senses.
Munch was closely connected with Expressionism, a modernist art movement that radically distorts reality in order to convey a very real thought or feeling. Today, the collected works of Edvard Munch show us a world saturated with meaning and experience.
