This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas board, done in the Russian Suprematist style of Ivan Vasilyevich Klyun (Russian, 1873-1943). Image depicts an enveloping tapestry of jewel tone and geometric design. A handwritten, Cyrillic inscription can be noted at lower left corner, with the date "1922". This framed piece measures approximately 17.25" x 14.25" overall, with an approximate image sight of 13.75" x 10.5".

Reverse side of piece features an affixed paper label which reads, "Maurice Rousseau. Expert. 42 Rue la Fayette. Paris (IX)." A handwritten inscription at bottom of label reads, "Klyun, Ivan Vasilievitch".

Ivan Vasilyevich Klyun (Russian, 1873-1943) was an artist and theorist known for his contributions to color theory and Russian Suprematism. Klyun and his cohorts placed particular value on pure abstraction in painting. Suprematist artist Kazimir Malevich once wrote that “the appropriate means of representation is always the one which gives fullest possible expression to feeling as such and which ignores the familiar appearance of objects.”
