Description
A Carved wooden "Lipiko" initiation mask with traditional style, accented with raised linear tattoo designs, human hair and carved wooden teeth. Makonde peoples, Mozambique / Tanzania, Africa. This mask measures 9.5 x 9 inches ( 14 inches tall on professional custom display stand which is included for this lot. Provenance: Collected in situ in 1990 on a research/buying trip for the exhibit Tanzanian Traditional Sculpture, which was held at SMA Museum of African Art in spring of 1990. Ex Collection Prof. Charles Bordogna, Past curator of the SMA Museum of African Art, New Jersey. Ex Collection: The Dr. Brian Healy Estate, New York.
