Description
A group of 5 Coptic textile fragments, Egypt, c. 5th - 7th Century AD. A variety of examples including a linen swatch with a square embroidered panel in wool, another panel with and interlocking scroll motif bordered by bands featuring pear-shaped devices, a small panel with a floral decoration, and a small swatch with red scrollwork. Largest piece 8 x 6 in (20.2 x 15.2 cm. Three are sewn onto paper backing. Ex Iskander family collection acquired prior to 1969; thence by descent.
