Ben Wittick (1845-1903) - A Snake Dance of the Moqui Indians, Oraibi Pueblo, Ariz. Breaking Up The Dance, 1898. 5" x 8.5" silver collodion print. Professionally framed with archival materials. 17.25" x 18.25" framed size. Framed behind glass. Images of the photograph on its supporting board are also shown (unframed). The board has minor wear to the corners and a darkening to its color; please review images. Ben Wittick was a pioneer photographer of the American Southwest. This image, along with others in its collection, was a part of his "Views in New Mexico, Arizona, and Old Mexico" and represented life of Pueblo people in the late 19th century. Signature is included on the supporting board, lower left, hidden by the matting.
Condition
The photograph itself is in near excellent condition; there are only very minor, tiny scratches to the surface of the photograph, which can only be seen when tilted at an angle in the right lighting. Images of the photograph on its supporting board are also shown (unframed). The board has minor wear to the corners and a darkening to its color; please review images.
