Description
Native American, US Southwest, Hopi peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A wooden dance wand with a painted motif of the germ god Aalosaka painted in bright colors with bold brush strokes on one side. The figure has a black-outlined body with an ovoid white face, twin curved, yellow horns, and a triangular body with blue, red, and white interior. The legs are formed by horizontal bars in black, red, and blue. Below that is a curved form painted above the cylindrical handle in a grid pattern with black dots at the center of each square segment. This item was used by women in the Maraw Society dances seeking rain and a good corn crop. Size: 6.05" W x 23" H (15.4 cm x 58.4 cm)
