**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East/Central Asia, Sassanian (Sasanian/Sasanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. Cast via the lost wax/cire perdue process, a bronze equestrian sculpture. The horse is a sturdy steed with a hefty body on attenuated legs, a short manicured mane, perky ears, a well-defined snout, delineated genitalia, and a curled tail. The horse is fitted with a bridle that is delineated in bas relief, and one can see the rider's hands gripping the reins and his feet below, also in bas relief. Finally, the bronze has developed a gorgeous green patina. A wonderful example from the ancient Sassanians! Size: 3.75" W x 2.8" H (9.5 cm x 7.1 cm)

Condition
Rich patina on surface. Head is lost, but is not broken off - it once fit into the opening on the body. Small casting flaw on horse's stomach. Otherwise quite nice with beautiful patina.
