Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican / Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1000 CE. A hand-built blackware pottery vessel on a corseted foot bearing a register of impressed stepped and triangular motifs. The globular body boasts a pair of applied, stylized jaguars on the shoulder, and a wide strap handle arches along the verso with a small bird on top. The conical spout displays the head of Naylamp (also Nylamp, Nanlap, or Naymlap), the legendary founder of the Lambayeque. Size: 5.75" W x 7.7" H (14.6 cm x 19.6 cm).
Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away.

Condition
Vessel repaired from multiple large pieces, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor chips and abrasions to base, body, handle, and spout, with light softening to some finer details, and fading to original coloration. Light earthen deposits throughout.
