• Francois Gardère, Partially Printed Document Signed as State Treasurer, Receipt for Taxes paid by Vr Canchoix, on 3 slaves for 1828, October 3, 1829, Louisiana. 1 p., 6.5? x 2.875?
• Joseph Goodwyn, Autograph Letter Signed, to Unknown, May 19, 1835, Sappony, [North Carolina?]. 1 p., 4? x 6.5?: “I will see that the negroes you levy on shall be delivered to you on the day you may appoint for their sale.”
The death of a master often led to the sale of slaves to settle the debts of an estate. Joseph Goodwyn (1780-1838) of Dinwiddie, Virginia, owned 119 slaves in 1830.
• E. D. Williams, Administrator of estate of L. B. Griggs, Manuscript Document, Debts for hire of six slaves for the year 1840 for a total of $687, July 1, 1840. 1 p., 7.75? x 6.5?.
• William H. Stewart, Receipt for payment of $72 for “work of Negro Boys Carpenters as pr agrment,” January 12, 1857, Perry County, Alabama. 1 p., 6.5? x 7?.
James W. Cook, the executor of the estate of Humphrey Jemison, rented the “Negro Boys” to Stewart. Humphrey Jemison (1806-1856) owned 28 slaves in 1850. William H. Stewart (b. 1816) was a farmer and the jailor in Perry County in 1860.
• List of slaves from the Estate of Rachel T. Sanders, “To be sold on a credit until the 1st April 1862 with interest from date,” ca. 1860-1861. 1 p., 8? x 9?.
Rachel T. Sanders (1793-1860) died in Perry County, Alabama, in March 1860.
• Appraisal of Slaves from the Estate of William A. Sanders, March 18, 1861, [Perry County, Alabama]. 2 pp., 7.75? x 12.375?.
This list includes 34 named slaves, valued at a total of $27,650.
• John F. Vary, Autograph Document Signed, Bill of Sale as administrator of estate of Rachel Sanders for slave Burrell for $1,200, to Woodson Cooke, Samuel G. McLoughlin, and Wilson R. Brown, April 15, 1861. 1 p., 8? x 12?.
• F. Nesmith, Overseer, “Daily Record of Hard Scrabble Plantation,” October 1861, Hardscrabble Plantation owned by Dr. James Cain, Simmesport, Louisiana. 2 pp., 8? x 10?.

• E. Q. Heard, C. A. Cosby, and E. A. Young, Manuscript Document, Appraisal of property from the estate of A. M. Mahan, including nine named slaves, seven named mules, a named horse, and a yoke of oxen, November 23, 1863, [Perry County, Alabama]. 1 p., 8? x 13?.
Archimedes Monroe Mahan (1797-1863) died on February 11, 1863, in Perry County, Alabama. In 1860, he owned 44 slaves, valued at more than $47,000.
• “Names of Taxable Persons within the Assessment District. Agents of Persons Not Resident Therein and Agents of Foreign Corporations Therein.” for New Orleans, n.d. Lists names of eight slaveowners, who together owned 114 slaves. 1 p., 11.125? x 17.5?.
