Description
"Bacchus and Ariadne", a Classical Romantic Theme, oil on canvas, in round format on a square canvas, titled, dated and signed lower right in pencil on blank portion of canvas, possibly a study for the 1840 masterpiece willed to the Tate Museum in 1856 as a bequest of the artist (31" square). Housed in a 20th c. gold painted square frame with round spandrel, OS: 28" square, SS: 18" diam. Relined, needs cleaning. Provenance: From a Bath ME home.
