A September 18, 1945 dated letter while aboard the USS Sabel. He talks about basketball coaching after his Navy commitment. A December 17, 1945 postmarked envelope and signed Christmas card. A December 30, 1947 letter and basketball schedule while coaching basketball at Indiana State. A Tally-Ho Newspaper. 2 of the letters are from Wooden during his Navy days during WWII. The 3rd letter and Indiana State basketball schedule (1947-1948) are from his second year and last year as a college coach at Indiana State before he became the head coach of UCLA. They are incredibly rare. These items came from a larger group. These letters are the real deal from an incredible person. You will get the drift of the type of person he was when you read the letters. This letter group is historically significant because John Wooden went on to become the greatest basketball coach in the history of college basketball at UCLA. Another item that did not come with the letters, but confirm Woodens participation in the war is a dated August, 1945 Tally-Ho NAS U.S. Naval Air Station St. Simons Island, Georgia Newspaper. There are 8 in this paper.
