Description
Roman 3rd cent. A.D..Marble. H. 14 cm. W. 13.3 cmFigure reclining to right with nude upper body and raised left arm holding a lagobolon (a hunter’s stick for striking hares). The right arm is likewise raised and the hand rests on the petasos covering the head. The short hair, corners of the mouth and nostrils are accentuated by deep drill holes. Probably from a sarcophagus. Condition: Tip of nose worn.Formerly Museum of Fine Arts Boston, inv. no. 76.724 (deaccessioned September 24, 2015), gift of Charles Callahan Perkins (1823-1886), Boston (Accession Date: January 1, 1876).
