A FRENCH NEO GREC BRONZE MOUNTED BLACK MARBLE MANTLE CLOCK, CIRCA 1870, with a carved scrolling broken arch pediment centering a block form plinth with a gilt incised rectangular reserve, enclosing stylized bellflower incised corner spandrels centering a gilt floral decorated roundel, above a molded cornice and breakfront box form case with elegant curling leafy vine incised spandrels cornering a central beaded bronze and domed glass bezel, opening to a black marble ring dial with gilt Roman chapters encircling gilt metal hands mounted on a recessed gilt face with partially exposed brass clockworks, verso circular red silk lined and pierced gilt metal door opening to brass clock mechanism numbered "3882 / 7 4," suspending a Thieble pendulum numbered 3931," exterior flanked by single vertical trough cut details above leaf tip modeled bronze trim and sides mounted with gilt bronze classical maiden masks suspending foliate loop handles, above a fluted pylon style base on a conforming cavetto topped plinth mounted with a bronze pendant cast as a maiden's mask within stylized curling acanthus branches, ending before gilt incised lozenge florets issuing curling oak leaf tipped stems and partitioned by straight stemmed trefoil blooms over short block feet. Condition
Good condition for antique French clocks of this age and use including but not limited to expected worn gilt details throughout, surface buildup, scratches, edge nicks, and small chips, repairs, gilt hands are later, lacking winding key.
