Description
A pair of ancient bronze and silver coins. Lot includes an issue of Constantine I, AD 307 - 337, with 'Manus Dei' or the 'Hand of God'. Divus Constantine I the Great, post-mortem issue struck after his death, 337-340 AD, Antioch mint. Veiled head of Constantine right, DV CONSTANTINVS PT AVGG / Constantine driving galloping quadriga right, the hand of God reaching down from above. (15.5g, 1.59g). The second is a coin from Venice, Italy. Lorenzo Tiepolo, Doge 1268-1275 AD. Silver Grosso. Christ enthroned, facing front; IC-XC / LA-TEVPL-SM-VENETO; Doge (L) receiving tall flag from St. Mark (R). DVX down flag staff. ref: CNI 2; Biaggi 2278; Papadopoli 1 for type. (12.5mm, 1.95g). Ex Epshtein collection, Berkeley, CA.
