Description

Three Typed Letters Signed by Mrs. ML King to Stoney Cooks

A group of three letters, all measuring 8.5" x 11". Atlanta, Georgia, all addressed to Mr. Stoney Cooks and signed "Coretta." The first letter, dated March 21, 1979, invites Cooks to be a member of the Board of Directors at the King Center, stating that he was "unanimously nominated" by the Board at their 1979 Annual Meeting.

The second letter, dated September 25, 1985, invites Cooks to become a member of the Dinners Committee, organized to aid in the planning of "Salute to Greatness Dinner" hosted by the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Non Violent Social Change, Inc. on January 18, 1986.

The third and final letter, dated January 15, 1993, notifies Cooks of his election to the Board of Advisors for the King Center. Beginning October 16, 1992, the term would last one year.

Cooks had been project director for the SCLC under Martin Luther King's leadership. A great group of letters, with flattened mail folds and light toning to some. The 1979 letter has been highlighted in yellow marker; it is unknown if this was done by Coretta King, Cooks, or another party.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
