Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. Cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process, a copper alloy statue of Mors (Greek Thanatos) the personification of death, wearing his traditional hooded cloak and holding inverted torch of life. Mors (Thanatos) would appear to humans when the years allotted to them by the Fates had expired. He was the son of Nox (Greeky Nyx) - the goddess of the night - and Erebus - the Greco-Roman god of darkness - as well as the twin brother of Hypnos - the Greco-Roman god of sleep. Size: 3.125" H (7.9 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand.
