Description
Balinese Kamasan art, hand painted pigment on a cotton canvas, circa 1875 in the folk art style of late 19th Century Indonesia. A scene from the Mahabharata, one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India. A similar painting, possibly by the same artist, is held in the collection of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Chong-Moon Lee Center for Asian Art and Culture. Good antique condition, with some age related wear to edges, which does nothing to take away from its beauty. The canvas has been folded, and bears crease marks. Measures 11 1/2 in. x 69 in.
