Balinese Kamasan art, hand painted pigment on a cotton canvas, circa 1875 in the folk art style of late 19th Century Indonesia. A scene from the Mahabharata, one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, depicting Nagas and other figures of Hindu mythology. A similar painting, possibly by the same artist, is held in the collection of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Chong-Moon Lee Center for Asian Art and Culture. Good antique condition, with some age related wear to edges, and a one and a half inch tear to the left edge which does nothing to take away from its beauty.
