This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas, done in the modern figurative style of Armando Morales (Nicaraguan, 1927-2011). Image depicts a humble woman with an earth-toned shawl and a crown of tiny red flowers resting on her head. A faint smile warms her face. This piece would be an attractive addition to any collection. Hand-painted inscription at top right reads, "A. Morales. R. 68. [?]". Framed dimensions approximately 13.5" x 11.5". Image sight approximately 8" x 5.75".

Armando Morales (Nicaraguan, 1927-2011) was born in Granada, the youngest of six children. Beginning in 1956, Armando Morales was abundantly awarded for his artistic triumphs. Morales showed an early interest in the visual arts, and was gently nurtured toward a formal artistic education. Having graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Managua, Morales briefly worked in the family business to support his family, but ultimately came back to his great passion in life: painting. During the course of his career, Armando Morales won first prize in the Central American Painting Contest, a Guggenheim Fellowship for the Creative Arts, the “Industrial Tandil” Prize at the III American Biennial in Cordoba, Argentina, and the Ernest Wolf Prize for best Latin American artist.. Morales died in Miami, Florida in 2011.
