A truly matching set of 5 shallow Japanese Kutani bowls that are intricately and delicately painted. The painting is amazing. A set of 5 porcelain identical Japanese shallow bowls with raised cut foot rings. The bowls are decorated with a scholar in the garden with attendants, a carp swimming and a coastal scene painted in iron red and glitter gold gilding. The line quality is very accurate. The foot rings and bases are glazed. The glaze is thick with a soft, feeling and looks shiny. There is a two character mark in iron red on the base of the bowls. MEASUREMENTS 5 ½” (14.0 cm) diameter x 1 ½” (3.8 cm) deep. Total weight is 2 lb 3.5 oz (1025 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks and all the bowls ring true. There is slight gilding wear and kiln flaws such as pin holes, bumps, tiny glaze smudges and black spots. The flaws are very small and are more numerous on the underside. One bowl has a small gap in the glaze at the mouth. The workmanship is amazing. The paintings match exactly and are so intricate. Tiny works of art to add to a collection or be admired in the décor.
