Description
A GROUP OF TWO JAPANESE PARCEL GILT ENAMELED IMARI PORCELAIN BOWL AND PLATE, ATTRIBUTED TO THE LATE MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912), comprising a floriform plate centering a pearl within four swirling underglaze blue petals with parcel gilt swirls, issuing four teal green circular medallions with central flowering lotus within choppy waves, interspersed by divided petals, respectively painted with a phoenix in flight and a dragon writhing among clouds, verso plum blossoms, and the foot encircled in underglaze blue ring, diameter: 9"; and an octagonal bowl, the interior painted with green and iron red enamel with underglaze floral motifs, centering a kamon style medallion with three sword blades over three flowering blooms, the exterior with lucky symbols and a red dot echoing the Japanese Flag between flower blooms, raised on a plantain leaf collared foot with encircling blue rings, diameter: 9 1/2".
Condition
Some gilt and enamel rubbing and losses, the bowl has an underglaze crack that runs horizontal, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
