Martin Van Buren (1837-41)Autograph Letter, signedRome, (New York), September 15, 1832. 4to. 1 p. on one sheet folded to make four pages. 9 7/8 x 7 3/4 in. (250 x 196 mm). Autograph letter, signed by Van Buren to Thomas W. Olcott. Creasing from original folds, one inch separation along top horizontal fold on pp. 1/2, and a three inch separation on same fold on pp. 3/4. Lot includes a postcard portrait of Van Buren. Future president Martin Van Buren writes to his friend and future President of the Mechanics and Farmers Bank in Albany, New York, Thomas W. Olcott, seeking financial advice about investing his money in a bond: "I must ask your good offices to assist me in investing my small amount of funds..."
