Andrew Jackson Autograph Letter Signed "Andrew Jackson." One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Washington, August 30, 1817, to Hugh L[awson]. White, Esq. Jackson requests that White get a message to Col. McClung (perhaps Charles McClung of Knoxville). The letter reads, in part: "Wishing a speedy answer to the enclosed from Col. McClung. I have taken the liberty to enclose it to you, should you be in Knoxville, I have to ask the favour of you to send it to him without delay, as I wish to be in receipt of his answer, before the 10 th of next month." Hugh L. White was one of Jackson's most trusted associates. White succeeded Jackson when he resigned his Senate seat in 1825. The McClungs were a prominent Knoxville family. Condition: With old fold creases, some raggedness along the edges, a tear at the bottom edge and some minor loss to the corner not affecting text.
