Description
Medal group officially engraved to Lt. Harold S. Riley Jr. of the 487th Fighter Squadron. Lt Harold Riley’s P-47 Thunderbolt #42-22530 was hit by Flak while approaching the airfield of Montdidier in a low-level sweep in the Wizernes V-weapons area on 11 March 1944. His plane had been last sighted above Oisemont, 40km NW of Amiens, France. Crashed near Boscrocourt, France. Killed In Action (KIA). Missing Air Crew Report - MACR 5013. Riley is credited with the destruction of at least one enemy aircraft. The lot includes his original officially engraved Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross, as well as his numbered Air Medal. Also included are his English made original squadron patch, unit history, wings and a binder filled with copies of his records, photos and research.
